A constellation is a group of stars that can be joined together to form a shape or picture. Many ancient cultures around the world often created stories about the shapes they could see in the night sky.
Have a go at creating a tasty constellation using ingredients you can find in a kitchen. You can recreate a real constellation or create one of your own!
By the end of this activity you will:
- have thought about the pictures humans created in the night sky
- have made your very own edible constellation
- have a tasty treat!
To complete this activity you will need:
- a base - like a biscuit or cracker
- chocolate or cheese spread (or alternatives)
- white chocolate chips, sweets, small pieces of fruit/vegetables, or seeds like sunflower or pumpkin - these will be your stars!
- a butter knife (or something else you can spread with)
- a cloth or napkin in case things get messy!

Have a go!
- Pick the constellation you are going to create - you can search the Internet, look in the night sky for inspiration, or just make up your own!
- Place your biscuit or cracker on a flat surface like a plate or table - this will be your base
- Carefully use the knife or spreader to cover one side of the biscuit/cracker in a layer of chocolate or cheese spread
- Carefully stick your decorations into the spread so that they create the shape of your constellation
- Take a photo of your tasty snack before you eat it!
