Astronomers use telescopes to see objects far away in space. Did you know that we can only see an object if it emits light or if it reflects light?
In this activity you will investigate how reflective objects can be used to change the direction of a beam of light.
By the end of this activity you will:
- Have used your knowledge of how light behaves to solve a problem
- Understand that some telescopes contain mirrors to direct the path of light
To complete this activity you will need:
- The Introduction to Exploring Light
- The Exploring Light Investigation instructions
- A cardboard box
- A mirror that will fit in the box
- Some sticky tack to hold the mirror in place
- Scissors to cut holes in the box
- A hidden object, like a picture or a photo
Approx Duration
30 - 60 mins
Have a go
Your challenge is to change the path of light to reveal a hidden object!
- First, make sure you have all the things you need to complete this activity from the list above
- Then, read through the Introduction to Exploring Light and answer the questions as you go
- You are now ready to follow the instructions and complete the investigation!
